This is a short post with exciting news. The first issue of slips slips has finally made it into print!
As you can see above, this is what 5,000 copies of a broadsheet literary journal look like before they’re picked up from the printer. And as you can see below, this is what a single issue of slips slips looks like when it’s being held by one of its editors while posing for a photo:
The wingspan on that thing is nearly three feet! What were we thinking???
slips slips will officially be introduced to the world at a launch event in Manhattan this weekend. I’d invite you all to attend, but the reservation list filled up before we could take it public. I guess that’s what happens when you print a publication with 50 contributors, half of whom live in or near the City.
But you can still attend even if you can’t attend! God help us, we’re experimenting with a livestream so you can enjoy readings from 15 of our contributors if you’re so moved. To join, just click on this link at 7pm ET on Saturday night. It could be a technological catastrophe, which promises to be entertaining in its own right. You win either way!
Even if you can’t join us online, there are multiple ways to keep up with slips slips:
First and foremost, request your own copy! We’ll start sending out mailings next week, so let me know if you’d like us to put you on the list. Copies are free, but if you’re so inclined we’d be thrilled for you to kick in a buck or two for pay-what-you-will postage.
Don’t worry if you lose the donation link above, because you can always find it at our new website - slipsslips.net - which features updates and information about the publication and our contributors, including links to donate and submit your own material for future issues!
And again, don’t worry if you misplace that website url, because you can sign up for updates to be delivered to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletter, blips blips! At the moment it’s populated with cross-posts from The Jeff Stream about the genesis of the project, but starting next week we’ll be posting a regularly updated roster of content, starting with a photo/video recap from Saturday’s event, followed by a series of profiles of our exciting array of contributors.
For now, all 25 bales of newsprint are hanging out in my apartment, just waiting to be picked up by a squad of Depression-era newsboys stuffed into envelopes next week by me and Hope and Kristen. From all three of us, thank you for reading and supporting the slips slips endeavor up to this point. I look forward to sending you an issue - and hopefully sharing your work in the next one! Sign up to blips blips to hear more next week…
YAY!
